Soft, durable, and comfortable! Great height for hiking with trail running shoes!
My husband and I cannot live without our Darn Tough socks for hiking in the swamp in the winter or just staying home with the heat turned down. (And yes, it does get cold here in Charleston.) As I wrote in my review for women's Darn Toughs, they are darn WONDERFUL! They keep our feet warm without making them feel clammy - like so many house slippers can - and the wool is soft yet tough without being itchy at all. Amazing. Be sure to wash them in cold water and let them air dry. Wool shrinks very easily - no matter how "tough" it is. Highly recommended.
I've been wearing Darn Tough socks since 2008, in fact I still wear the same socks I bought back in 2008 if that tells you how amazing these socks are. I bought my first pair for Backpacking but soon after bought a couple pairs to wear to work and found myself never wearing anything but these socks. They do fit snug which I didn't think I would like at first but quickly got used to. I feel even more in love with them when I ripped my first hole in one in the ankle, probably by pulling the sock on by the neck stretching the ankle more then necessary(to be fair I now am more careful when putting them on). I promptly returned them and received a new pair, no questions asked. As for the sock itself the cushion is incredible and they are durable enough to wear around the house and pretty much anywhere. They are warm enough for cold weather, yet they breathe pretty well. I have a thin pair for running and a thick pair for Backpacking but use the medium cushion for every day use with Tennis Shoes and Dress Shoes. I prefer them to dress socks especially as they cushion way better with the stiff leather. All told I have about 7 pairs of different styles for different occasions and I don't wear any other socks. These socks also breathe so well in a pinch you can wear them for multiple days between washes. I wouldn't recommend it as it's just not good hygiene but they work so well it's hard to tell that the dirty socks are really dirty and I've never gotten any of my pairs to smell bad or show dirt. Anyway they are expensive but worth every penny and then some, just don't lose them and you'll never have to buy socks again.
There's no doubt these socks can be expensive compare to regular boot socks. However, the quality and durability of them are second-to-none. I was apprehensive about how wool socks would feel or even perform but after one hiking trip I was completely sold on them. I like my Darn Tuff socks so much that I later returned and purchased a set of their Coolmax running socks. I am sold on Darn Tough Vermont socks and will continue to purchase their socks in the future.
