History of the LA Marathon:
March 15, 2015, marks the 30th anniversary of the LA Marathon, that annual 26.2 mile trek that takes runners on a whirlwind "Stadium to Sea" tour of iconic Los Angeles landmarks--all while sweating it out to beat their best time. (And 178 of those runners have been doing it for all three decades straight!) Established following the tremendous success of the 1984 Summer Olympic Games, the LA Marathon remains one of the most popular marathons in the United States
By the Numbers
The LA Marathon continues to grow every year. The numbers from the 2014 event speak for themselves:

-Almost 100 nonprofits
-Almost $4 million raised for charity
The current men's course record is held by Ethiopian athlete Markos Geneti, who in 2011 finished the course in 2:06:35. Russian athlete Lidiya Grigoryeva holds the women's record, crossing the line at 2:25:10 in 2006.
