The life of a portage pack used in an outfitting program is not an easy one - out day after day for weeks on end in the rugged landscape of the Boundary Waters/Quetico conoeing areas. Granite Gear builds some packs designed to stand up to thie use year after year - the Trad 4 and Superior One Outfitter Editions.
Constructed of beefy, 500 denier pack cloth, the packs feture two layers of fabric on the bottom and at other high stress points and extra strong haul loops. The haul loops are red to remind you these are what should be used when picking up the pack. These packs are made in the Great Lakes region of the USA and are designed to be faithful canoeing partners for the long haul.
The Trad 4 pack is an improved design of the traditional portage pack with side compression straps and a padded hip belt. The Superior One adds a plastic framesheet to improve weight transfer to the hips and a large pocket between the flap and pack body to hold items you want to get to quickly, or to isolete wet items from the rest of your gear.
Granite Gear was started with the wild idea that they could make a better portage pack, and thousands of people think they've succeeded. Their concept was simple: Make a portage pack that is as comfortable as a backpacking pack, but designed to meet the needs of the canoe packer. Granite Gear has sold these packs since their beginnings in 1986 and they just keep getting better.
