Full Time - Entry Level
Store Clerk
Store Clerk (Full Time)
If living on the sharp end by climbing trad, clipping bolts and bouldering is your passion, but want to share your passion at your workplace with like-minded individuals then look no further. The Gear Coop is looking for you!

What We're Looking For:
Customer Service and Sales
- Determine the specific needs of each person that calls or enters the store and provide appropriate service based on their individual skill levels
- Give accurate, current, and knowledgeable information about products, applying personal experience with them where necessary
- Efficiently handle in-person product returns and exchanges in a way that demonstrates the spirit of our “Ironclad Guarantee”
- Maintain an upbeat, cheerful attitude reflective of the Coop company culture
- Utilize the tools and training provided to continue developing your selling and service skills, resulting in long-term customer relationships and ever-increasing sales
- Apply the above standards to all phone and online inquiries
- Monitor customer service metrics to ensure consistent satisfaction and approval

Store Operations:
- Handle all customer service inquiries via phone and email related to orders made on GearCoop.com
- Operate the cash register without error and be consistently accurate in money handling
- Inspect and keep track of all returned product and coordinate with product managers regarding vendor RMA procedures
- Coordinate with catalog management department regarding online listing quality and data infidelity that could be resulting in loss of sales
- Practice security measures that prevent theft and understand the procedures for dealing with shoplifters
- Practice safety consciousness at all times, especially with customers climbing on the in-store bouldering wall
- Assist store management with keeping retail floor and back stockroom clean and well-organized

Employee Development:
- Participate in all required clinics and employee training sessions
- Help out with store events and promotions, such as our weekly Beer & Bouldering nights
- Have fun and promote a positive work environment!

What You've Got:
- Plenty of experience climbing outdoors in the sport and trad disciplines
- High level of familiarity with trad and other climbing gear as well as technical outdoor apparel
- Great verbal and written communication skills
- Very high productivity and the ability to multi-task
- Excellent computer skills, including proficiency with email and web applications; aptitude with Excel a definite plus
- High competency at learning new skills and completing tasks quickly and correctly
- Integrity, strong work ethic, and high attention to detail
- Ability to work independently at a high level with minimal instruction
- Must be able to work some weekends and evenings as required for retail store shifts
- An unquenchable passion for the outdoors that manifests in your love of climbing, backpacking, backcountry skiing, mountaineering, and other outdoor sports REQUIRED!

Buyer/Category Manager (Full Time)

For you, a shopping spree involves picking up waterproof gear, headlamp batteries, and fuel for your camp stove. Your closet has more goose down than the bedding section of a department store. Your workout regimen involves clipping some serious bolts at the local climbing crag. Your ideal vacation involves a 30-pound pack, a hammock, and miles of trail.

Who are you? You're already an experienced outdoor product buyer. Comparing specs and prices on shiny new gear is already one of your hobbies—and your focus is to ensure that your company offers only the most awesome, cutting-edge products for crazy outdoor pursuits, and that it's the stuff you want in your own pack.

What We're Looking For:
Purchasing and Inventory
- Work with the buying team to execute day to day buying activities
- Prepare and report on regular replenishment orders and pre-season orders and forecasts
- Research, implement, and keep track of category purchasing, demand planning, and logistics
- Communicate effectively with key suppliers to review and resolve any discrepancies

Business Development & Strategic Planning
- Analyze and be on the lookout for exciting new business opportunities
- Develop sales and business development strategies to firmly position Gear Co-op as a leading retailer of outdoor gear within the industry
- Stay on top of competitors' promotions, sales, and growth

Merchandising
- Ensure products are merchandised properly on website, Amazon.com, and in-store
- Analyze sales figures and trends to anticipate future product needs, identify emerging industry trends, and prioritize areas of focus

What You've Got:
- 3-5 years of experience as a professional buyer in the outdoor industry
- Excellent presentation, negotiations and strategic planning skills
- Very strong Excel skills and sales analysis and forecasting prowess
- Experience with Amazon sales and fulfillment services a big plus
- Adaptability to effectively manage within a fast-paced, ever-changing business environment
- Ability to plan, assess, and implement change
- Rock-solid business and financial acumen
- Great reputation as both a team leader and team player

Assistant Buyer (Full Time)

You prefer a sleeping bag to an actual bed. Your "gear-age" has ousted your car to the driveway. A weekend spent indoors is a waste of two good days. There is no greater feeling than fresh powder, crystalline granite, or a rough-hewn trail. For you, there is no such thing as "off-season."

Who are you? You're a serious outdoor enthusiast who wants to just mess with gear all day, every day. You've honed your customer service skills behind a register or walking retail floors. Bonus: you've got exceptional analytical skills, seasoned either through education or just real-world experience.
