Incredible Jacket

I purchased this jacket about 8 months ago and in the 15 times I've worn it, it has yet to let me down. No matter where I go (camping, rock climbing, alpine climbing) I bring it. What makes it so versatile is its waterproofing and breathability. The pit vents are the best as they allow me to start a hike or approach with the outer shell on but prevent overheating and having to stop, take the shell off, pack it in the backpack and then resume an approach; simply unzip the vents once you start getting warm and viola', cool again. I've climbed Mt. Gorgonio with this on while there was a constant rain/sleet throughout the day. I wanted to stay dry but the constant uphill was exhausting and making my body temperature rise. The pit vents unzip almost entirely down the side of the jacket allowing cool air to enter but still keeps the rain out due to your arms covering your sides - game changer. The material is also incredibly durable. When I rock climb in cold conditions, I will usually wear a light down jacket but the sharp rock has a tendency to tear the down jacket (obviously). I solved for this by overlaying my down jacket with this shell and any abrasions against the rock has yet to effect the jacket - another game changer. Oh yeah, the harness fit is great too as the jacket doesn't ride up over your climbing harness IF you don't have the draw cord tightened on the bottom of the jacket. I found that having the draw cord tightened, the jacket will tend to ride up to your waistline. Overall, the fit is nice. It is made well enough to be worn over a base layer without feeling baggy yet roomy enough to wear several layers of insulation underneath without feeling like you're being hugged by a bear. I've worn this jacket with just a t-shirt underneath and loved it; I've also worn this jacket up Mt. Whitney in March with 3 layers underneath and it felt great too. I'm very pleased with this purchase and am hoping for many more years. Pricey? A little bit; but the quality (waterproofing, breathability, durability, fit) you're receiving is top notch. I used to buy cheap gear and it never lasted, wasn't waterproof, and had the equivalent breathability of wearing a black trash bag. I've learned to invest in good stuff, especially when conditions call for it.
