The Clinics

Intro to Backcountry Gear & Travel

This clinic will introduce you to all the necessities of backcountry travel and associated gear including:
proper fit and use of backcountry skis and bindings, touring boots and skins, as well as beacon checks and group communication skills. The clinic will also include skinning techniques as well as a skin up, transition, and ski down with an experienced guide. No prior backcountry experience required. Skiers and riders must be able to descend down a 'green' run, this is not a ski or riding lesson.

Intro to Avalanche Safety

This clinic will introduce you to the gear and techniques to help mitigate the dangers of backcountry skiing and riding. A short introduction to avalanche safety will be presented with a field demonstration and conversation regarding the hazards associated with backcountry travel. THIS IS NOT AN AVALANCHE COURSE. This is an introduction to the hazards and the gear associated. Anyone wishing to travel in the backcountry is highly encouraged to participate in an official AIARE Avalanche 1 course.

Beacon Practice Area

There will be a beacon practice area where a mock avalanche scene will be available to test your skills. This will be available to all attendees.
