HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN CLIMBING?

8 years.

HOW OFTEN DO YOU CLIMB?

5-7 days a week.

HOW DID YOU LEARN?

A couple of my buddies got jobs at a local gym back in high school, and I started hanging out there a few days a week. In college I got involved in the USC Climbing Club and served as the club President my senior year.

WHY DO YOU LOVE TO CLIMB?

I started rock climbing when I was 18 years old, and I knew almost immediately that it was something I wanted to do for the rest of my life; which is a big deal when you're an 18 year old kid trying to figure out who/what you are and where you'd like your life to go. It has become such an important part of who I am. I love everything about climbing - the adventures I have been on, the friends I have made, the freedom, the sense of accomplishment. I love the juxtaposition between the controlled precision and focus some climbs require; and the raw, emotional type of climbing that others do.

WHAT ARE YOUR FUTURE PLANS?

My goal for this summer (2014) was to climb the Regular NW Face of Half Dome; Chad and I ticked that one off the list in July. In the immediate future: tick some more classics in Yosemite/Tuolomne/Sierras this summer.

WHERE IS YOUR FAVROITE PLACE TO GO?

Too many places. Joshua tree, red rocks, tahquitz, bishop, Yosemite/tuolomne.

WHERE IS YOUR DREAM PLACE TO DO A CLIMBING TRIP?

Too many places. Squamish, hueco, RMNP, rifle, Horseshoe canyon ranch, red river gorge, new river gorge, indian creek, el potrero chico, Ceuse, chironico, the dolomites, Oliana, Siurana, Margalef, Rodellar, Mallorca, Kalymnos, Yangshou, Ha Long Bay, Castle Hill, Grampians, Rocklands?

WHAT IS YOUR PROUDEST MOMENT AS A CLIMBER?

Half Dome was the hardest thing I have ever done. We were exhausted and very dehydrated; but we kept battling and made our way to the top. I didn't know I had that in me.

ANY SCARY MOMENTS?

Huge rock fall at the base of Half Dome. 2:30am the morning we started climbing. Tore right through our bivy spot. Chad and one other guy got hit; nothing serious, but it could have been really, really bad.

my 5 must-haves

  • ARC'TERYZ R320A HARNESS

The most versatile, comfortable harness I've ever worn. Works great for sport, trad, ice, big wall.
  • TENAYA OASI SHOE

High performance without sacrificing comfort. You will be shocked at how comfortable they are.
  • PETZL ANGE S/L QUICKDRAW

Lightweight, super smooth opening and closing of the carabiner and an incredible lifespan compared to any other draws I've used.
  • MAMMUT INFINITY 9.5MM BICOLOR ROPE

Lightweight, handles like a dream. This rope also takes a beating and holds up exceptionally. Bicolor is a no-brainer for multipitch climbing.
  • BLACK DIAMOND X4S

Specifically the blue 0.3. If I am maxed out on a tough thin crack and desperately need to place a piece, the .3 X4 is my go to. It is there when I need it and has saved my skin more than a few times.
